Malaysia’s Health Ministry has just approved the use of Sinopharm Vaccine and the Johnson & Johnson’s Vaccine. The conditional approval of these vaccines means that these vaccination require details on the quality, safety and efficacy of the vaccines to be monitored and evaluated based on updated data from time to time.
The Sinopharm vaccine is also known as the COVILO Suspension for Injection COVID-19 Vaccine. It contains an inactivated virus and it is developed by China National Biotec Group Company Ltd , manufactured by Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co Ltd.
The J&J Janssen vaccine known as the Janssen Covid-19 Vaccine Suspension for Injection is manufactured by Belgium-based Janssen Pharmaceutica NV. Other than the usual side effect of Covid-19 Vaccines, J&J has also recorded more serious side effects, although rare such as fainting and being at risk of having the Guillain-Barré syndrome. It is an autoimmune reaction in which the immune system attacks the nervous system, which may cause paralysis.
The National Immunisation Programme (NIP) will now have total of six vaccines which are Sinopharm, Johnson &Johnson, Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, and Cansino.
