Another iconic hotel bites the dust as Hotel Istana ceases its operations and will be permanently closing down. The hotel recently released a circular stating that their hotel is targeted to close on the 1st of September.
This is due to the hotel battling with new and neighbouring hotels, serviced apartments, not to mention competitors like Airbnb during these tough times. Furthermore, the Covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated the situation. The lengthy lockdown period has negatively impacted the hotel’s room rates, occupancy rates and the overall business. The general manager of Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur, Noorazzudin Omar has stated that despite their best efforts, even as a quarantine hotel, the company has incurred monthly operational losses. Through proper evaluation of the hotel, it was decided that it is not feasible to continue operations.
