Due to the full lockdown initiated by the Malaysian government, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced on the 30th of May that the existing MITI permission letters will no longer be in effect on the 31st May 2021.On the 1st of June, new permission letters will have to be obtained through the designated ministries.
On Monday (31st May), MITI announced that it would only provide approval for manufacturing and manufacturing related services, other sectors would have to refer to the National Security Council or MKN. After which, on June 1 (Tuesday) MKN decided that MITI would be put back in charge for the approval letters. This caused mass confusion amongst companies who are applying for the letters. Furthermore, it is said that reapplying is unavailable to applications that have been rejected. Approval through MITI CIMS 3.0 will include a QR code in order to be verifiable to the relevant authorities.
Due to the short notice, many companies have yet to get their approval from the government bodies. Petaling Jaya district Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhruddin Abdul Hamid informed that their officers will give a three day grace period before issuing compounds for violations. This means that the old MITI letters will still be valid until June 3 (Thursday). Employees should bring their approved letter from MITI, company issued letters and a valid identification card or document when they are travelling.
UPDATE: CIMS letters from June 1 will be valid throughout the extension of the MCO 3.0 period
