As the country faces consecutive lockdowns for more than a year now, it is no secret that the tourist industry has taken a huge hit. However, Penang trishaw riders have taken a particularly harsher hit as most of them are senior citizens with health problems and no natural social network to depend on. In fact, some of them are also currently homeless as they have failed to pay rent.
Therefore, Urban Life Volunteers is a charity organisation that needs your help to provide some necessities or financial aids. Necessities such as clothes detergent, bar soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, face masks, sanitisers, calcium or vitamin C supplements, Anelene milk for senior citizens, sugar, tea leaves, face towels, shaving blades and clothes are needed urgently.
Donations can be made on Monday – Friday at 3pm at 44A Lebuh Ah Quee, 10450 Georgetown Penang. You can also contact Ms Sarah Abdullah at 010-377 1025.
Urban Life Volunteers (ULV) is a charity organisation headed by Ms Sarah Abdullah and Mr Nadir. Their priority is to help these riders with food, financial and medical aids. Currently, the organisation is providing monthly financial aid of RM50 which is given every 1st and 15th of the month to 60 riders above the age of 50. Furthermore, the organisation provides breakfast, lunch and teatime daily with dinner only twice a week. ULV will cook the meals and deliver them to the riders themselves. They have also helped 7 riders to receive medical assistance and have placed 3 trishaw riders in an old folks home.
