The Centre of Disease Control (CDC) has concluded that double masking is more effective against Covid-19. Here are the different types of mask techniques and their efficacy rates.
1. Knotting your Mask
Tying a knot at the ear loops of your mask will make the mask tighter and flatten the material so that it is close to your face. Doing so is proven to have 77% of effectiveness compared to 56.1% on an unknotted mask.
2. Double masking
Double masking with a surgical mask followed by a cloth mask will also reduce the amount of airflow that is not going through your masks. The rate of effectiveness is at 85.4% as compared to a regular cloth mask which is at 51.4%
How to pair your mask
You should always pair your mask with a surgical mask and a cloth mask. The surgical mask being inside and the cloth mask being on the outside. You should not pair two surgical masks together or two cloth masks together. Furthermore, an N95 mask should not need to be paired up with any other mask as it already can seal the face and filter 95% of particles.
