Lotus’s is a retail chain from CP Group which originates from Thailand and has acquired Tesco Malaysia since December 2020. Starting July 1, Lotus’s Stores will not be using any single-use plastics throughout Malaysia in their checkout counters.
In support of the Malaysian government initiative towards zero single-use plastics 2018-2030, Lotus’s Malaysia has already begun introducing no single-use plastics in some of their stores such as Lotus’s Penang E-Gate and Lotus Desa Tebrau in Johor. The initiative began in Penang due to the fact that the state government has been already phasing out single-use plastics since 2009. With this move, Lotus Malaysia is supporting and also hoping to envision a cleaner and more sustainable Malaysia by 2030.
Lotus’s Malaysia has also decided to go with the slogan “Bring Home Change” for this initiative. This campaign reflects on how easy it is to make a change by simply using a reusable bag instead of single-use plastics. In view of this initiative, the store is giving 8 points for each reusable bag that a customer brings. These points can then be redeemed and converted into cash vouchers.
