Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been a surge of Malaysians requesting for renewals of their passport. Earlier in the year, there were incidents where Malaysians were queuing for hours in Singapore’s high commission on Jervois Road just to get their documents renewed.
This is due to the fact that the immigration sector in the high commission can only handle a finite number of manual applications in a day due to social distancing practices and manpower limitations.
Therefore, Malaysians abroad who have passports expiring this year will be eligible for a free 2 year extension. For those who are interested, Malaysians will have to fill up an application form and submit it to the embassy or high commissioner. The appointment date in order to get your passport extension stamped will be emailed to you after approval. However, the waiting time is expected to be in between 8 to 12 weeks due to the high volume of applications.
